Drookit Dogs
Fletch at St Andrew's
How many church-related puns can you fit into one hour? At Drookit Dogs' album launch in St Andrew's Church it's more than I'd care to count, but there are few complaints this evening. From the first pluck of the double bass to the last whack on the wooden box drum, the crowd have their heels stomping and their heads bobbing almost as much as the band do. While some of the lyrics are lost in a Vic Reeves-esque growl and bizarre arm movements, it does little to lessen the intensity of the performance. Drookit Dogs defy classification with their punky folk, but even on this dank Bank Holiday their rough and twangy charm very nearly manages to incite a hoedown.
