3 to see: Exhibitions From Locals
ThreeWeeks recommends three exhibitions from locals from this year's Fringe
#1 Joy Of Creation: An Exhibition Of Quilts: Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, but you can stop right now. Great quilting is art, and the art of great quilting is one I admire. In fact, I wish I were a great quilter instead of the occasional amateur that I am. Anyway, there are bound to be lots of really exciting pieces of work on display here, as quilters from Edinburgh show off their skills, so drop by and see them.
St Mary’s Cathedral, 1 – 31 Aug, Mon – Sat 9.00am – 5.00pm (closed from 1.00pm – 2.00pm), Sun 12.00pm – 3.00pm, free, fpp135 .

#2 Waters Of Scotland: I am not sure if exhibitor Leo Du Feu is a native Scot, given his name, but this award winning artist is a graduate of the Edinburgh School Of Art, plus, this exhibition is a collection of paintings inspired by the Scottish islands and coastline, so I’m counting it as local. The pictures look beautiful, so I’ll be checking it out if I get the chance. It’s in a nicely central location so that shouldn’t be too hard.
Overseas House, 31 Jul – 6 Sep, 10am – 6pm, free, fpp13.
--
#3 Rough Cut Nation 135 (pictured): This is an installation using the empty space created by the current redevelopment of the Portrait Gallery, and is a collaboration between a number of young artists from around Scotland. I think it sounds really rather exciting.
Royal National Portrait Gallery, 7 – 30 Aug, opening times vary, free, fpp135.
